Our story

Once upon eons ago, on an island far, far south, some wondrously unique creatures brewed, evolving over time in their own peculiar, Tasmanian way.

Some would say we are still evolving in a unique way today. Our characters and quirks being forged by the unforgiving elements of an isle remote from almost everywhere else in the world.

MEET TASMANIA’S ODD MOB.
SURVIVING & THRIVING WITH OFFBEAT ISLAND FLAIR.

Hyde

the thylacine

Hyde is a Tasmanian Tiger and the most loyal Odd Mob friend.

He has fond memories of the past, when Tasmania was called lutruwita, and the palawa people were the island's only humans. He talks about the old times and shares tales of daring escapes  from hunters. He is rather mysterious.

His friends know he lives somewhere in the ancient forests, but nothing more.

T-bone

the Tasmanian Devil

T-bone is a hungry Tasmanian Devil.

He likes eating all types of food but
he LOVES T-bones. He is so well known for eating his favourite, meaty treats that his Odd Mob friends call him T-bone instead of his real name - Timmy.

Be careful though! He becomes devilishly grumpy when he is hungry.

Cray Cray

the Southern Rock Lobster

Acclaimed artist, Cray Cray creates paintings and sculptures that capture the beauty of the ocean environment.

Because his attention is focussed on producing beautiful artwork, he sometimes forgets to do some little things - like brush his teeth.

Thankfully his trusty Odd Mob friends are there to remind him.

Briney

the Flinders Island lamb

Briney hails from a large happy flock on the saltgrass plains of Flinders Island.

In what seems an extraordinary  lack of foresight, all her flock-mates were given exactly the same name. It makes it very confusing when their parents call them in for dinner at night!

Prickles

the Echidna

Prickles the Echidna wants to be a famous Tasmanian comedian and she makes up jokes about the silly things her Odd Mob friends do. Unfortunately she is painfully shy.

She is so quiet that Cubes the Wombat is the only one who has heard how funny she really is.

Cubes

the Wombat

Cubes is a wombat who comes
from a tiny Tasmanian town. He has a talented butt that poops little cubes and farts a lot too.

Most of The Odd Mob think he's funny and cheeky, but Cranky the Quoll thinks Cubes is plain RUDE!

Lavender Bear

Lavender Bear is a huge Tasmanian celebrity.

He shot to fame, becoming
the celebrity face of a wildly successful Tasmanian road safety campaign, reminding tourists to wear seatbelts.

Now he prefers to focus on his charity work, making appearances at the hottest events around town.

Cranky

the Eastern Quoll

Whilst Tasmanians have been trying to save the devils they somehow forgot to think about saving the quolls too, and that makes Cranky, well, CRANKY!

Cranky is not the biggest member of the Odd Mob but she sure is the loudest. You might even find her marching on the city streets raising awareness about the plight of her fellow quolls.

About us

"I am a Tasmanian people-watcher, artist, designer and Kawaii (cute) illustration appreciator. I have created The Odd Mob to celebrate our quirky island and its characters.

Tasmania is place of oddities. From our unique culture, strange creatures, interesting people and unexplored wilderness to the mystery of Thylacine - which have long been extinct, but mysteriously, sightings are still reported.

The Odd Mob are imaginings, drawings and designs interpreted from my surroundings, having borrowed little traits here and there, from real Tasmanians. And as they say in the movies - any resemblance to a person living or dead is purely coincidental.

The Odd Mob will soon be making their debut in plushie form, surely endearing themselves to their fellow Tasmanians. They are looking forward to a day when they can share their stories with our visitors too."
